I found this when surfing on some hacking sites. But the step was a little complicated, so I’ll simplify it for you. Come on, we often have some secret files that must not revealed to anyone else. We will make a RAR (type of archive similar to that famous ZIP) files that look and act as image file (JPG in this case). No, we won’t talk about steganography or encryption or something. All we need is an access to command prompt and you should get a RAR file concealed in JPG file.
Okay, let’s go straight to the first step.
- Prepare your image file with jpg extention and have your files packed in a rar files.
- I’ll assume you have “image.jpg” and “secret.rar” in same folder named “c:\strife”
- Open up your command prompt. If you wonder how to open it just click Start > Run, type “cmd” and press enter
- Change to the folder where the files placed. Type “cd c:\strife” and press enter
- Now, it’s the crucial step. Type “copy /b image.jpg + secret.rar result.jpg”
- You will get the file result.jpg in the same folder. Remember not to miss the “/b” because without it you won’t get it right.
- Finish!
Do you recognize that the result image has bigger filesize than the original image? Yes, you have embedded the rar archive to that image. Open it with your image viewer and you get the image exactly same as before, other than the size is a lot bigger.
But, how to open the secret hidden files? It’s a little tricky. Right-click your “result image” and select “open with…” then try to use WinRAR to open that file. Hey, I don’t need to explain you how. Right?
Now, you can mail or transfer the file more securely with the files hidden in rar files camouflaged in image files. Don’t forget to tell the recipient how to open it. Yeah, you can give password to the rar to make it more secure.
Regards,
Strife Leonhart

Yes, you can have multiple RAR files. \b ensures the copying takes place as a binary operation and not ASCII (because that would screw the encoding, as JPEGs are hex-encoded). The technique basically just appends the RAR content to the end of the image file, which would not be read since it would lie after the EOI (end of image) 0xFFD9 marker of the image.
Be weary that some image editors might complain that the file is corrupted/damaged or that it might be virus-contaminated. (Yeah, because you could put an executable script there and have the “image” called by another, harmless-looking, script.)

Couldn’t we just rename the .RAR extension to another? For example, renaming file.rar into file.gif or file.txt.
And open it with the same way we do it above (or rename it again). I’ve tried it once, and it seems there was no problem with this way. :P

yes it can, but you can’t properly open .rar files with image viewer.. it should say an error… and someone might think it as corrupt file and delete it
in .txt files case, you can tell the filetype by opening a .rar files with notepad… sure, just check it out…
if you conceal it in a text… the secret will get revealed soon after they recognize the filetype
